Pulvinar

The pulvinar is the largest nucleus of the thalamus and makes strong connections to the visual cortex. The pulvinar participates in reciprocal cortico-cortical interactions and promotes synchronized oscillatory activity. The pulvinar makes connections with the superior colliculus and posterior parietal cortex, all part of the visual attention network. Overall, the pulvinar is responsible for visual salience, social cognition, blindsight, and attentive stimulus processing.
