Thalamic reticular nucleus

The thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) consists of a thin layer of GABAergic cells adjacent to the thalamus and innervate neurons there. It’s wrapped around the rostral, lateral, and dorsal thalamus. Axons reciprocally connecting the thalamus and cortex pass through the thalamic reticular nucleus, and thus, the TRN helps sort thalamocortical information.
