Supraoptic nucleus

The supraoptic nucleus contains neurosecretory cells that produce oxytocin, vasopressin, and antidiuretic hormone. It is located in the medial area of the anterior hypothalamus, superior to the optic tract. Hormones travel down axons to form the supraopticohypophyseal tract and are released in the posterior pituitary.
