Subfornical organ

The subfornical organ comprises a loose network of neurons and glial cells found in the third ventricle. The circumventricular organ plays a key role in detecting and integrating hydromineral and hormonal circulating fluid balance signals. Efferent neurons then project this information to the central autonomic nuclei to maintain osmotic, volumetric, cardiovascular, and metabolic homeostasis.
