Uncinate fasciculus

The uncinate fasciculus is a hook-shaped white matter tract that connects forward and lower parts of the limbic system such as the hippocampus and amygdala in the frontal lobe to the orbitofrontal cortex. It is the last white matter tract to mature in the brain. Functionally, this may be important for auditory-verbal memory and declarative memory as well as self-awareness.
