Globus pallidus (forms nucleus lentiformis with putamen)

The globus pallidus is a paired subcortical structure that is one component of the basal ganglia. Together with the putamen, it forms the lentiform nucleus. Each globus pallidus structure is divided into the globus pallidus interna and externa, divided by the internal medullary lamina. Overall, the region is important for modulating voluntary movement, motivation, and cognition.
