Postcentral gyrus (Primary somesthetic area)

The postcentral gyrus is a part of the parietal lobe and is located behind the central sulcus. The postcentral gyrus is also known as the primary somatosensory cortex and serves a function in sensation of touch.  There are four parallel bands present in the postcentral gyrus with two of the bands getting light touch input, one receiving deep touch and the fourth getting a combination. All the input to the postcentral gyrus is contralateral.
