Anterior cingulate

The ACC encompasses the frontal section of the cingulate cortex, resting behind the prefrontal cortex and surrounding the anterior of the corpus callosum. The dACC contributes to top-down attentional control of sensory areas. It is hypothesized to be a hub where negative or unexpected feedback received from primary sensory areas is relayed to motor areas to influence motivated behaviors and facial expressions. The vACC regulates autonomic function (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure) and is thought to relate to the processing of emotions, both positive and negative. In particular, the vACC is reactive to social feedback and may regulate emotional conflict.
