Subgenual area 25

The subgenual area 25 is a narrow band in the subcallosal area next to the paraterminal gyrus. It is part of the cingulate region of the cerebral cortex. Since it is also a part of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, stimulation of the area causes changes in heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and gastric function. Moreover, the subgenual area 25 has demonstrated to play a role in emotional and autonomic responses.
