Raphe Nuclei

The raphe nuclei are the location of the most serotonin neurons in the brain that produce serotonin which circulates the entire nervous system. The raphe nuclei cluster around the midline of the brainstem and are considered part of the reticular formation. The neurons of the raphe nuclei project to the forebrain. The raphe nuclei play a role in sleep-wake cycles.
