The gamma system contains gamma motor neurons, which innervate intrafusal fibers. However, the muscle only contracts slightly allowing the muscle spindle to be kept taut and sensitive to stretch over various muscle lengths. It also allows for fine motor control to smooth and correct movement and maintenance of proprioception and kinesiology.
