The trigeminal nerve is the sensory nerve that innervates different parts of the face. It divides into three branches for sensory innervation. The opthalmic fibers go to the forehead and eye. The maxillary fibers go to the cheek and the mandibular go to the jaw. The mandibular branch has both a motor and sensory component. The trigeminal nerve provides the sensation of touch, pain and temperature. A lesion of the nerve fibers causes hypesthesia or anesthesia.
