The cerebellum is involved in the functions of maintaining balance and posture, coordinating voluntary movements, motor learning and language. It is coined as the “little brain” because it appears to be a separate structure at the bottom of the brain and is located dorsal to the brainstem. The cerebellum consists of four deep cerebellar nuclei (fastigial, globose, emboli form and dentate) and three submissions (vestibulocerebellum, spinocerebellum and neocerebellum).
