Woman’s Winter Robe

Lokpa is a type of robe widely worn both in agricultural and nomadic areas across Tibet. The robe is made of yak or sheep skin, and is made without scraping the hair or fleece off the hide. The difference between Lokpa and other skin robes is that Lokpa do not require additional material for making them. Though the robe keeps one warm in winter, it is also worn in other seasons. The robe shown here is the typical for a female nomad. Generally, a female’s robe is longer and tighter than males' robes. In local dialect these are called tsakpa.
