Buffer Zone
In this context of polities, a buffer zone is a neutral area between two rival powers that is demarcated i order to reduce the danger of conflict. It is usually controlled by a peace operations force from which the disputing forces are excluded. It can also be referred to as BZ, area of separation, line of demarcation, peace operations, demilitarized zones, certain restrictive easement zone,s and green belts. Such zones may be, but not necessarily be, comprised by a sovereign state, forming a buffer state. Buffer zones can also result in large uninhabited regions (similar to nature reserves, although without tourism).
