A front section of a Tibetan translation of a sūtra or tantra setting forth the unique circumstances of the teaching of the text. This is the fifth of five “excellences” (phun sum tshogs pa lnga)—the excellence of the teaching. Taking the Heart of Wisdom Sūtra (shes rab snying po'i mdo) as an example, the extraordinary introduction, which follows the ordinary introduction, is:

At that time, the Transcendent Victor was absorbed in a meditative state (samādhi) on the enumerations of phenomena called “perception of the profound.” Also at that time, the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva-Superior Avalokiteśvara was contemplating the practice of the profound perfection of wisdom and saw that those five aggregates also are empty of inherent existence.
