This very common conjunction means “because,” “since,” or “for”; it is suffixed directly to the verb or to certain auxiliaries. It appears in the combinations ཡིན་ཙང་ and ཡོད་ཙང་. However, the following combinations are incorrect: *རེད་ཙང་, *ཡོད་རེད་ཙང་, *འདུག་ཙང་.

• དུས་ཚོད་མང་པོ་མེད་ཙང་ང་འགྲོ་ཐུབ་ཀྱི་མ་རེད། “Since I haven’t got much time I won’t be able to go there.”
• ངས་རྒྱ་གར་སྐད་ཡག་པོ་མ་ཤེས་ཙང་དཀའ་ལས་ཁག་པོ་བྱེད་ས་རེད། “That may be difficult because I don’t speak Hindi well.”
• ད་རེས་ང་ཡུ་རོབ་ལ་འགྲོ་ཡག་ཐེངས་དང་པོ་ཡིན་ཙང་རྒྱུས་ཞེ་དྲགས་མེད། “I’m not very sure, as this is the first time I’ve been to Europe.”
