The Construction Verb + པ་ད་ག་: “As Soon As”
The expression པ་ད་ག་ is derived from the form པ་དེ་ག་, which consists of the nominalizer པ་ and the demonstrative དེ་ག་ “just that” or “just there.” This expression, which is always attached to a verb in the past tense, means “to have just” or “as soon as.” In Literary Tibetan, it is replaced by མ་ཐག་ or པ་དང་.
- ཁ་ལག་བཟས་པ་ད་ག་ཡོང་པ་ཡིན། “I came as soon as I’d eaten.”
- ཚེ་རིང་སླེབས་པ་ད་ག་རེད། “Tsering has just arrived.”
- ང་ཚོ་སྦ་གུར་ནང་ལ་སླེབས་པ་ད་ག་ཇ་ཚ་པོ་བཏུངས་པ་ཡིན། “As soon as we got into the tent, we drank some hot tea.”
- ཇོ་ཁང་གཟིམ་སྒོ་ཕྱེ་པ་ད་ག་རེད། “The Jokhang has just been opened.”
