The Nominalizers ཅན་ and ལྡན་

The markers ཅན་ and ལྡན་ usually function like nominalized possessive verbs similar to ཡོད་པ་ “who has, endowed with.” Their meaning is very similar and they are often interchangeable.

  • ཡོན་ཏན་ཅན་ = ཡོན་ཏན་ལྡན་ “One endowed with qualities…”
  • མཛོ་རྭ་ཅན་ “A dzo with horns…”
  • གསར་ཤོག་ཤོག་ངོ་བཅུ་གཉིས་ཅན་ “A newspaper with twelve pages…”
  • གསེར་གྱི་པད་མ་ཅན་ “The one with the golden lotus…”
  • གསེར་ལྡན་གྱི་རི་བོ་ “A mountain that harbors gold…”
