Novel
Beside the folk poetic compositions of lozey ballads, tsangmo poems, songs, proverbs, etc. Bhutan has a tradition of writing poems, particularly among the educated elites. In some cases, these poems tell a real or a fictitious story. Although not of Bhutanese origin, a well known example of such poetry found in Bhutan is the Gesar epic. Other poetic novels were also popular in traditional Bhutan. Such literary compositions were often read or recited in gatherings as form of entertainment and moral education.
