Most large traditional Bhutanese books have illustrations at the beginning and the end of the book. The illustrations are of Buddhas and religious heirarchs at the top and of protector deities at the bottom. The simple illustration are line drawings but it is also common to find fully painted illustrations on the books. Some books contain more paintings than texts like modern pictures books.
