The skull is used for tantric rituals as container for nectar, particularly during the rituals of empowerment and accomplishment ceremonies to receive blessings from the deities. There is a whole art of choosing the right human skull and processing it to be used for the rituals. Some skulls are plated inside with silver sheets and decorated with studs of precious stones.
