Begging Bowl

Lhungze begging bowls made from bronze or iron are used by monks. The vessel was originally used as container to receive food by monks going on alms rounds. However, this practice does not exist in Bhutan as monks do not go to beg alms for regular meals. Like the monastic staff, the bowl is today used ceremonially during monastic events. However, the bowl is commonly seen on the lap of Buddha statues across the country.
