Knitting

Knitting is one of the common textile traditions of Bhutan. Bhutanese women knit jumpers, pullovers, jackets, hats, scarves and socks. They generally use cotton and wollen thread imported from India to knit but some also use local wollen threads to knit. They used long knitting needles made from wood, bamboo or from porcupine quills but today people commonly use imported needles made of other materials. Knitting is common among young women.
