Bhutanese celebrate promotions and new appointments in one's career or an inaguaration of projects with grand feasts and merriment. The Bhutanese people believe that an event or stage in life should be launched with auspiciousness and joy. The beginning of a process is considered to lay out the direction and form of what follows. Thus, prayers and rituals are conducted to make the beginning auspicious. Friends and relations come together to make good wishes and prayers and congratulate the person or persons for whom the celebration is held. Gifts are given with white scarves which symbolize purity of thought and auspiciousness. The guests are treated to a sumptous meal along with drinks and entertainment.
