The traditional western Bhutanese moved from their winter base to their summer home in spring as part of their transhumance practice. They conducted the byachoe or summer ritual in their summer base to propitiate the family deities in order to seek their benediction to clear all obstacles. Although the religious aspect of the rituals are often the same as the winter lochoe rituals, the byachoe does not have the grand social feast and partying which is associated with lochoe. Some villages combine the byachoe and serchoe rituals in one event. The religious practice which is carried out is often the exorcism based on the female Buddha Tara.
