Bhutanese folklore contains stories of love, romance and fedility although Bhutanese do not have a culture of expressing love and romance in public places. The stories often present challenges and difficulties such as the social incompatibility which the couples have to overcome or the obstruction caused by an evil character. The notion of fedility and dying affection are common themes of Bhutanese romantic stories. Sometimes, the romance and love stories are traced across several lifetimes to highlight the karmic connection which brings about romantic relationships.
