Cultural History

The cultural composition of Bhutan is very diverse and rich due to the historic isolation of Bhutanese communities as result of its geographic terrian. However, the rick cultural heritage and its phases of development and change are not properly recorded. The cultural knowledge of the people, unlike the religious heritage, was not written down and mainly passed down through oral transmissions. Much can be learnt about Bhutan's cultural history from oral stories and the various oral genres and practices in life. The scanty cultural information one can find in historical documents supplement the oral accounts and intangible practices.
