Calling the Lama

Devotion in one's guru is a very important component of Bhutanese Vajrayāna form of Buddhism. Most people have many gurus from whom they have received teachings and instructions for spiritual practice. A Bhutanese priests would usually begin his or her day by recollecting the guru and making prayers to the guru by chanting very earnest and sad hymns which praise the guru and also beseeches the guru to bless, guide and protect the student on the spiritual path. The hymn is often sung aloud and known as Calling the Lama from afar.
