The Thakali are an ethnic group of Nepal who speak a Tibeto-Burman language of the same name. According to the 2001 census of Nepal, 6,441 people speak Thakali as a mother tongue and there are 12,973 ethnic Thakali. (Mark Turin – June 01, 2004)
