Post-traumatic stress disorder refers to experiences of psychological distress that follow a traumatic life event. The experiences of psychological distress must meet the diagnostic criteria defined by the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual in order to be defined as “post-traumatic stress disorder.”
