Chief or pontine nucleus of the trigeminal nerve sensory nucleus (V)
The chief sensory nucleus of V is responsible for proprioceptive feedback from the muscles for facial expression, fine touch discrimination, and vibratory sensations from the face. Functionally, this is similar to the nuclei cuneatus and gracilis in the medulla, which process such information from the trunk and extremities of the body. It is located within the dorsolateral pons medial to the middle cerebellar peduncle and inferior to the superior cerebellar peduncle. It gives rise to trigeminothalamic fibers, which terminate in the ventral posterior medial nucleus of the thalamus.
