Seven nuclei in the visual midbrain ( n. of the optic tract, posterior limitans n., the olivary pretectal n., the anterior pretectal n., the posterior pretectal n., the medial pretectal n. and the commissural pretectal n.). All are interconnected and project to the intergeniculate leaflet.  Functionally, they are all very diverse, including mediating pupillary light reflex.
