The medial portion of the thalamus contains the medial dorsal nucleus and smaller midline nuclei under the wall of the third ventricle. Neurons of the medial thalamus make connections to the motor cortex. This region is involved with memory and pain processing and tends to be the most involved region of the thalamus.
