Lateral [disambiguation needed] and basolateral nuclei (frontotemporal cortical system)
The lateral and basolateral nuclei of the amygdala both contain serotonin receptors. Both nuclei are important for anxiety and Pavlovian conditioning - storing information for forming fear-conditioned responses to previously neutral stimuli by pairing them with aversive stimuli. The basolateral nucleus projects mainly to the nucleus accumbens and dorsal striatum.
