Superior frontal gyrus
The superior frontal gyrus is a part of the prefrontal cortex that is involved in working memory. Working memory is a way to process short-term memory in order to direct behavior. Lesions in the superior frontal gyrus lead to long-term deficits in working memory. There are many subregions in the superior frontal gyrus. The posterior portion is the supplementary motor area, the lateral area is responsible for working memory and attention and lastly the medial part plays a role in default mode network.
