Existential Statements
A distinction may be made between expressions of situation, of existence, and of possession.
The verb “to be” in the sense of “to be located at” (situational sense) is translated by the future of the verb “to stay” བསྡད་, or its honorific form བཞུགས་:
- ང་ནང་ལ་བསྡད་ཀྱི་ཡིན། “I shall be (or stay) at home.”
- ཁོང་རྒྱལ་སར་གཞུགས་ཀྱི་རེད། “He will be (or stay) in the capital.”
Possession and existence are expressed by using the future form of the verb ཡོང་:
- མོ་ལ་མཚེ་མ་ཡོང་གི་རེད། “She will have twins.”
- ཁོང་ལ་དངུལ་ཡོང་གི་རེད། “He will have money.”
རྙོག་ཁྲ་ཡོང་གི་མ་རེད། “He won’t have any problems.”
