Alternative schools offer highly specialized education to students whose needs are not well met in other school environments. Alternative schools tend to prioritize small classrooms, high teacher-student ratios, and individualized instruction. Students are often referred to alternative schools because they do not meet the academic standards set forth by the public school, they have exhibited behavioral misconduct, or for other reasons which are decided upon on a case-by-case basis.
