Rhomboidal nucleus
Rhomboidal nucleus involved with working memory includes the brainstem, serotonergic afferents from the raphe nuclei, reticular formation, lateral dorsal tegmental nucleus, substantia nigra, supramammillary nucleus, medial and lateral parabrachial nuclei, and locus coeruleus. Input received from the infralimbic, anterior cingulate, medial agranular cortices, primary and secondary motor cortices, and primary somatosensory cortex. Output goes to the medial and ventrolateral prefrontal, frontal cortices, dorsal and ventral striatum, frontal polar, prelimbic, medial orbital prefrontal cortices and anterior cingulate cortices. Efferent projections found in the anterior commissure, retrosplenial, occipital, entorhinal and perirhinal cortices.
